GCSE Maths 9-1 Topics Completing the Square Revision

At Ilkley Tuition we are in the process of covering many different GCSE Maths topics from the new 9-1 course to help students understand what topics others find tricky and also where to find the best revision resources to help overcome these challenges.

This week we are looking at completing the square. Completing the square can come up in a number of contexts including solving quadratics as well as other scenarios. Students need to learn the method for this for level 7 questions but also learn it for level 8 to 9 questions when they appear. The level 8 to 9 questions could involve completing the square of a quadratic that has a coefficient in front of the x2 which can be quite challenging, even more so if the number is odd as then fractional rules will come into play and the opportunity for error is great. Like any tricky GCSE Maths topic the best way to understand it is to revise the methods and content and then move onto practice questions before finishing with exam style questions that present all sorts of contexts. You can get access to all of these completing the square revision materials from Maths Made Easy. You can also access the AQA specimen papers, OCR GCSE Maths exam papers and Edexcel 9-1 GCSE Maths mark schemes to help you revise.

If your child requires additional support then they can always look to book an experienced GCSE Maths tutor in Ilkley which is where Ilkley Tuition can really help.
