At Ilkley Tuition we cover all areas of the GCSE Maths course and look to detail what types of questions are likely to appear in the final exams. This week we are analysing the topic factorising quadratics which has always been apart for he GCSE Syllabus but in recent years, since the introduction of the level 9-1 course, the number of different question types has increased. Factorising quadratic equation questions requires students to be able to understand how to rearrange equations as well as the basic algebra rules. This topic can also appear in more complex question types such as algebraic fractions where the factorising has to be completed prior to simplifying the fraction. There has also been factorising quadratics incorporated into inequality questions where again an algebra rearrangement is performed before the factoring is used to help solve the quadratic equation.

The most difficult quadratics to factorise are the ones when there is a coefficient in front of the x2 this requires a different method with multiple steps in order to complete it, not just ‘what factors times to get the end number and add to get the middle’ which is the classic technique used. At Ilkley Tuition our GCSE Maths tutors ensure that all of our pupils full grasp each and every topic before we move onto the more complex problems. Whether your child is struggling with factorising quadratics another part of the GCSE Maths course, contact Ilkley Tuition today to book an expert GCSE Maths tutor in Ilkley.
